I believe that mental health counseling can help an individual make positive changes and experience growth at any age or stage in life - childhood, adolescence, or adulthood. I also believe that individuals inherently possess the ability and the resources they need to live a peaceful, balanced life.
MY CLIENT POPULATION
I work with children as young as age 10, adolescents and adults. My clients are individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions such as divorce, adjustments to various life situations, relationship issues, and most other situations that are causing their life to be less than fulfilling.
MY TREATMENT APPROACH
My approach for all individuals is practical, short-term and solution-focused. The first few sessions are typically spent gathering information and setting goals. The remaining sessions will be aimed at discovering strengths and monitoring progress to help you or your child reach those goals. Counseling is a collaborative process, so expect to be engaged. Sometimes a referral to another professional is appropriate and necessary to achieve certain goals. We will make that determination together. Sometimes assessments and consultation with other professionals such as doctors or school personnel are necessary to help you or your child reach your goals. Each person's needs are unique to the individual, and I will do my best to meet those needs.
Adolescents' and children's needs are different from adults' needs in counseling. For treatment to be effective, the approach must be developmentally appropriate. My past experience as a teacher and school counselor allows me to have a keen understanding of the challenges that students and families may face.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN A SESSION
